The Rotary Club of Newtown Oko-Oba in Lagos State has proposed N20 million community projects in line with the year 2021/22 Rotary International theme: ‘SERVE TO CHANGE LIVES’.
Mr. Adetona Shogbesan, The Rotary Club President gave the disclosure on Sunday during the Investiture Ceremony and induction of new members to the club.
According to the club president, the theme for RI this service year is “SERVE TO CHANGE LIVES”, and I will particularly want to emphasize the words “serve” and “change” as guides and principles for us all in this journey.
“It gives me great pleasure to stand before you this day, to witness and be a part of an occasion which signifies and embodies continuity, civility, and an indelible mark in selfless service to humanity.
“In other set-ups, it is a bit of battle here and there for succession, but as it is with ROTARY, transition is seamless and done with unison.
“It does give me great pride to be a part of Rotary and more importantly, a member of the Rotary Club of Newtowns Oko oba I would like to thank Almighty God for HIS mercies and blessings that has brought me thus far/and I am assured of HIS grace which will take me even further,” he said.
Shogbesan added that challenges created opportunities and from the opportunities comes change.
He noted that change could not and would not happen on its own unless we make a conscious effort to look inwards and allow it.
“My areas of focus aligns with that of Rotary International, and that is to cover projects in the areas of
Planet Earth/Environment, Maternal & Child Health/Care, Disease Prevention & Treatment, Water & Sanitation
Empowerment, Basic Education & Literacy, Peace Building, and Conflict Resolution.
“On Basic Education and literacy we proposed N2.5m, disease prevention and treatment N980,000, economic and community development N3m maternal and child health N1.3m.
“On water Sanitation and hygiene N4m, peace, and conflict prevention N1.5m, supporting the environment N750,000 and others,” he said.
The club president appealed to meaningful individuals and organizations both local and international to support the good that Rotary does around the world by donating handsomely to execute the community projects.
Mr Kolawole, Ojelabi, the Guest Speaker at the investiture ceremony said that the Rotary club said that club would focus more on humanity services to assist the government in reaching the nook and crannies of the community through developmental projects.
Ojelabi also urged the residents who are financially capable to support the club in executing the laid down projects.
Mrs Morenike Bode-Tawak, the immediate past President of Rotary Club Newtowns Oko-Oba in her remarks congratulated the newly inducted members and advised them to make a meaningful impact in the club activities.
Bode-Tawak said the club had renovated and rehabilitated the block toilets and provide water at power line Health Centre Oko-Oba, and renovations of building and refurbishment of lone classroom Block of Nursery Class at Yewa Nursery and Primary School Orile Agege.
Mr Oladayo Oshinowo, the newly inducted member, in his remarks thanked the club members for given him the opportunity to serve humanity.
According to him, it is a great privilege to be a member of the Rotary Club as it gives the members chance to serve society in all ramifications.
“I am using this opportunity to call on other citizens out there to join the club so as to take the society to the greater height,” he said.
