A media practitioner and a cleric with vast interests in agriculture, Pastor Dayo Thomas, has urged Christians to spread love and the message of the cross to unbelievers as a way of tackling problems of insecurity in the country.
He threw the challenge in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State on Wednesday.
Thomas who was speaking at an empowerment program for widows and other vulnerable groups said perpetrators of insecurity such as bandits, insurgents and kidnappers were in the dark because they have not received the message of love which Christ symbolised.
Rather than establishing mega congregations in urban areas Thomas challenged Christian leaders to take their messages to unbelievers in the hinterlands.
“All the problems, especially insecurity in our country today can be traced to lack of love. We as Christians have failed in our responsibility to spread love and bear good fruits. We need to wake up to our responsibility if we don’t want to end up like the fig tree which Jesus cursed in the Bible, for not bearing fruits,” said Thomas
The 3-day program was coordinated by a faith based organisation, Let my people go network and Datovalue Farms in collaboration with two international partners – Jaiyeola Segun Daniel Foundation, (UK) and Hellen Folashayo Hassan, (USA).
It featured empowerment, cash gifts, motivational talks, prayers and dinning. Scores of widows and indigent persons benefited from the program that witnessed participation by many clerics from diverse denominations.
The pathetic story of a physically challenged orphan was shared with requests made for her assistance by well meaning individuals and groups.
Mrs Leah Arokoyo in a closing remark, thanked the brains behind the initiative.
