Updated: Rapper Drakeo The Ruler is dead

U.S. rapper Drakeo The Ruler, whose real name is Darrell Caldwell,did not survive the stabbing wounds in his neck Saturday night.

He reportedly passed away at the age of 28.

TMZ and Fox News reported that he died after he was stabbed at the Once Upon A Time LA concert.

Journalist Jeff Weiss, who has ceaselessly chronicled Drakeo’s music career and legal battles, has confirmed Drakeo’s death, according to Stereogum.com.

Drakeo was one of dozens of billed performers at the huge all day event Saturday in L.A.’s Exposition Park, when he was attacked back stage, during a fight.

“He was backstage around 8:30 PM when a fight broke out — and during the altercation he got stabbed … according to law enforcement sources”, TMZ reported.

“We’re told LAPD, California Highway Patrol and the fire department responded, and Drakeo was rushed to a hospital — but multiple sources tell us he died from his injuries”..

The attack made organizers to cancel the event at Banc of California Stadium in Exposition Park in Los Angeles.

An Instagram post from the festival organizers explained simply, “The Once Upon A Time In LA Fest is ending early. All performances are now over. Please head to the closest exit and head eastbound on MLK.”

Hip-hop artists such as Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, The Game, 50 Cent and YG had been scheduled to perform.

According to HipHopDX, Drakeo had just been getting back to his normal life, after being acquitted of felony murder and attempted murder charges in relation to the 2016 shooting death of a 24-year-old man.

Los Angeles County prosecutors retried him on conspiracy charges.

He ultimately struck a plea deal and was released from custody in November 2020.
