Gunmen have shot two policemen dead and burnt their patrol vehicle in Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria.

The incident occurred at  Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the State.

It was gathered that the policemen were shot dead at a checking point in the area mounted by 10 policemen.

The gunmen were said to have opened fire on the policemen immediately they got to the scene as others fled in different directions as they were attacked unaware.

Ikenga Tochukwu, Anambra State Police Command’s spokesman confirmed the attack.

According to him, what happened along the Obosi Idemili flyover was an example of the price police officers pay in service to the nation and humanity.

He said three of the armed men were demobilised, while two police personnel paid the supreme price.

Tochukwu added that the police also recovered the rifles of the slain officers.

He said a Lexus SUV, one of the operational vehicles of the armed hoodlums, was also recovered, saying that investigation was still ongoing, as further details shall be communicated.

The police spokesman said the command was firm and that the personnel were more motivated in providing security services until the current security concern is reduced to the barest minimum and overcome.
