Scores of angry women from Aggrey Estate at the old Port Harcourt Township on Tuesday occupied the headquarters of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution company, PHEDC, along Moscow road in protest over prolonged blackout in their area.
Dressed in black and holding raffia palm leaves, the protesting woman said they have been in darkness for the past four months following the absence of a transformer in their community.
They threatened to occupy the PHEDC office complex, until the company gives them concrete explanation and assurance on when power will be restored in the area.
The women who said the development has crippled businesses in the area particularly during this yuletide seaon lamented that all promises made by the management of the PHED to restore electricity in the area has failed.
At the time our Correspondent left the scene of the protest, none of the Officers of PHEDC had come out to address them.
It could be noted the PHEDC had in several of it’s Public enlightenment campaigns insisted that it is its responsibility to buy and replace every faulty transformers, electric cables and all accessories at no cost to consumers.
