The “Omo Better Concert,” an annual music festival that has successfully taken the stage three times, was held on December 19th and 20th, 2021, at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.
The event, known for its vibrant street culture, contagious vibes, and energetic performances, featured acts like Jaywon, Mr. Real, Davolee, Laycon, and Portable (Zazzu), among others. But it would be impossible to talk about this event’s success without acknowledging DJ 6ix’s extraordinary contributions—his performance was one of the night’s highlights.
From the moment DJ 6ix took the stage, it was evident that he was ready to set the concert on fire. Starting around 4 pm, the audience was initially just hanging around, waiting for the show to commence. As DJ 6ix began sound-checking and mixing original groovy beats, he seamlessly transitioned into hyping the crowd. His ability to energize the audience set the tone for the evening, creating an electrifying atmosphere even before the headline acts performed.
Throughout the event, DJ 6ix maintained his dominance behind the turntables, providing impeccable support for the various artists performing their hit singles. His proficiency in mixing and his dynamic stage presence were evident, as he flawlessly controlled the energy of the crowd. DJ 6ix’s role in the Omo Better Concert exemplified his mastery in the art of DJing and his unparalleled ability to connect with the audience.
One of the standout moments of the night was when Small Doctor, the star of the evening, took the stage. As the audience enthusiastically chanted Small Doctor’s popular alias, “Omo Iya Teacher,” DJ 6ix demonstrated his creativity and quick thinking by looping this chant into one of Small Doctor’s songs. He then infused an original beat, igniting the crowd and proving his skill in creating impromptu, yet captivating, musical moments, which I termed “Production on stage”. Also, there is a growing anticipation on Twitter for an official release of an original mix featuring the “Omo Iya Teacher” chant, a testament to the impact of DJ 6ix’s spontaneous creativity during the event.
The Omo Better Concert is one of many events where DJ 6ix has showcased his exceptional talent and innovation behind the decks. His performance at this year’s concert not only highlighted his technical skills but also his ability to elevate the entire concert experience for both the performers and the audience.
Despite the overall success of the event, there were areas that could be improved to enhance future editions of the Omo Better Concert. Including a wider range of artists from different genres and regions could attract a broader audience and add variety to the performances. Additionally, there were also moments during the concert when some speakers on one side were not loud enough.
While this was not DJ 6ix’s fault, as the sound engineers set the stage, a thorough prior sound check might have prevented this issue. Although technology can develop faults at any moment, DJ 6ix handled the situation gracefully by apologizing over the mic and getting the engineer to fix it promptly. Ensuring high-quality sound equipment and experienced sound engineers can mitigate such issues in the future.
In conclusion, DJ 6ix’s performance at the Omo Better Concert was nothing short of spectacular. His ability to energize the crowd, support the performing artists, and create memorable musical moments contributed significantly to the event’s success.
By addressing the areas for improvement, future editions of the Omo Better Concert can offer an even more exceptional and memorable experience for attendees, artists, and all stakeholders involved. The Omo Better Concert remains a great experience, and fans can look forward to more unforgettable performances and innovative mixes from this extraordinary talent.
