The Lagos State Safety Commission has urged building developers to make safety a priority as a strategy to reduce the rate of building collapse.
Lanre Mojola, the Director-General of the Commission appealed on Wednesday during the two-day training for developers and artisans.
He noted that the training was organized in collaboration with Oloko Adenle and Sowemimo Legal Practitioners, and the Association of Real Estate Developers of Lagos State.
Mojola said that the training was in line with the state government’s THEMES Agenda of making Lagos a 21st Century economy and a secure city.
He said that the training of stakeholders in construction was important to reduce the rate of building collapse.
`’Security, good governance, and safety of lives and property sit at the core of this administration’s agenda.
“The real estate sector has been plagued with many mishaps recently, ranging from building collapse to loss of lives and property, among many other things.
Mr Adebiyi Adeyinka, the Director of Public Safety and Well-being at LSC urged construction workers to scrutinise all materials to be used at sites.
Adeyinka said that risk assessment must be done before embarking on construction.
He urged that workers should eliminate any risks before embarking on work, or do away with the job if the risk would be enormous.
