The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has advised Lagosians to ensure that their immediate environment is clean during and after the yuletide season.

CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (retd) disclosed this at the Command Headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi.

She urged all residents of the state to obey public health directives to reduce the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

This, she said, is part of its renewed commitment to ensuring that Lagos is free from all environmental infractions.

According to her, ‘‘the yuletide season accompanies a lot of celebrations and more waste is generated so we admonish Lagosians to properly dispose their refuse and patronise approved PSP operators in the State’’.

Akinpelu read the riot act to street traders and hawkers to desist from trading on walkways, setbacks, medians, road verges.

However, she said LAGESC officers are strategically positioned across the state to stem the tide of environmental infractions caused by them.

She advised hawkers to stop displaying wares in transit to avoid being knocked down by hit-and-run drivers on the State’s major highways.

Meanwhile, she highlighted the continuous need for pedestrians to make use of pedestrian bridges that are strategically built around major highways in the State.

Akinpelu implored them to put safety first and not endanger their lives by crossing the highways.

“Lagosians are advised to be security-conscious in the yuletide season and report to the appropriate security agencies when they suspect anything unusual around them,” she said.
