David Mark: Nigerians must think of peace, avoid fault lines

The former President of the Senate, Sen. David Mark, has urged Nigerians to focus on factors that bring peace and unity to the country.

In a new year message issued on Friday in Abuja, he said that Nigerians must think of peace rather than ruminating on issues that tend to undermine the cohesion of the country.

Signed by his Special Adviser, Mr Paul Mumeh, the statement quoted Mark as enjoining citizens to shun mundane issues of religious and ethnic inclinations.

Mark noted that the nation had gone through turbulent times in the recent past, a situation he said must, of a necessity, be reversed for good.

“We must avoid those fault lines and work towards cementing the fragmented culture and tradition of brotherhood in the coming years,” Mark said.

He recalled that the nation had gone through many tortuous journeys to nationhood, including but not limited to the 30-month fratricidal civil strife.

” We must leave the past to the past and say never again,” he cautioned.
