Nigerians have taken to social media to criticize Abubakar Malami, the Minister for Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, over fresh terrorism charges filed against Nnamdi Kanu.
The Federal Government had on Monday filed fresh terrorism charges against the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.
In the amended process it filed before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the government increased the counts in the initial charge it preferred against Kanu.
Kanu, who has been in detention since his alleged abduction from Kenya and forceful return to Nigeria, faced seven treasonable felony charges, but will now enter his fresh plea to 15 amended charges marked FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015, and signed by the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, M. B. Abubakar.
The charges were amended barely 24 hours before the scheduled commencement of hearing by trial Justice Binta Nyako.
Kanu, who is scheduled to appear in court today, will now take his plea in response to a charge on 15 counts, including on terrorism.
Reacting to the development, some Nigerians accused Malami of abusing court processes.
#FreeNnamdiKanu A government of terrorists filing frivolous terrorism charges when they are the ones that carried out a terrorist act by kidnapping Kanu from Kenya and extraordinarily “renditioning” to Nigeria! #RevolutionNow pic.twitter.com/0gagrBFgMy

15 unworthy dismissible charges included upon the next ruling for MNK. Nigeria is embarrassing, Malami is just useless.

If only Nigerians can get it right come 2023, Malami should be tried and jail for atrocities he committed under this administration.
History will never be kind to him, he's the worst AGF that has precided over Justice ministry.— aderemi🇳🇬🇳🇬 (@reminifemi) January 18, 2022
Malami can keep fooling himself around as the big time fool that he has been. Madness! https://t.co/avh56bW6mH
