IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu

Justice Benson Anya of Abia State High Court sitting in Umuahia has ordered Buhari’s Federal Government to pay leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu N1 billion.

The money was compensation to Kanu over the invasion of his father’s house on September 10, 2017 by the military.

The judge gave the order while delivering his ruling in the N5bn suit filed by Kanu against the Federal Government over the alleged invasion of his father’s house, aamong other infractions.

The suit was filed by Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor

The judge who described the invasion of Kanu’s Afaraukwu residence as notorious and brazen, however struck out other reliefs sought by Kanu’s legal team, including his repatriation to Kenya and freedom from the detention of the DSS.

Justice Anya also ordered the Federal Government to issue a public apology in three national dailies to Kanu over the illegal invasion of Kanu’s Afaraukwu residence.

The Judge also also advised the Federal Government to adopt political resolution in dealing with issues involving Kanu.

The Judge made the order as the trial of the IPOB leader on 15-count charge of treasonable felony and terrorism continues at Federal High Court presided over by Justice Binta Nyako in Abuja.

Kanu pleaded not guilty to the 15-count charge.
