Lagos to sponsor youths on Chicago exchange programme

Lagos Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Olusegun Dawodu

Lagos State Government is set to fully sponsor the State and Divisional Youth Ambassadors, as well as cross-section of youth in the state on a Leadership and Capacity Building Trip to Chicago.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Olusegun Dawodu in a press statement on Wednesday.

He indicated the State’s readiness to send at least 10 Young Leaders including the State Ambassador, the Divisional Ambassadors and other selected youths.

Dawodu noted that the programme is organized by World Chicago in conjunction with SILEC Initiatives Nigeria.

This, he said, would enable young leaders, the opportunity to participate in diverse activities on the international exchange including volunteer activities, participating in international conferences, events and forums.

The commissioner further disclosed that one of the activities of the trip would be Programme Orientation and Overview of the workings of the United States Government, and also Communication workshops with international experts and the YMCA Youth Safety and Violence Prevention Programme.

In his words “The platform will enable participants to broaden their horizon, increase their experiences and foster international citizenships, thereby, promoting and exchanging values, traditions and cultural diversity with a view to attaining global leadership.

Meanwhile, he explained that the participants have been thoroughly trained at the 2021/2022 IBILE Youth Academy as well as the Transformational Leadership Programmes, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, where they were taken through different leadership topics and tasks.

“The Chicago Exchange Programme is one of the commitments of the State Government to further build their capabilities of our Youth and transform them from local champions to global citizens that can compete favourably with their peers from any part of the world”, he added.
