The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, warned members of the party in Ekiti not track of their goal which is to reclaim power in the state in the June 2022 governorship election.

Ayu gave the warning during meeting with held to settle the crisis rocking the state chapter of the party over recent congress held by the party to elect delegates that will vote in the primary to elect PDP’s candidate for the June 2022 governorship election.

Ayu however said that the excitement and little agitations in Ekiti were not a negative thing, but a positive signal that “PDP” is strong” and its members are passionate about the party.

The party leader said that winning Ekiti would also demonstrate the unity after the party national convention that produced the current National Working Committee.

He said it would signal that PDP meant business and had taken the first step to the villa.

“So, I appeal to all of you from Ekiti not to lose track of that key goal. Any other thing is a distraction. You must keep in focus the goal we have.

“The first is to win Ekiti and if possible to win every state and then ultimately to win the presidential election.

“That is central to rescue this country and rebuild it. This is the central message of this effort,” Ayu said.

He said that the party did not hold anything against those expressing their passion, for PDP to win.

The PDP national chairman said that the party would only be worried if any member went violent or did anything contrary to the party constitution.

“We are very happy with all our members from Ekiti. We only hope that at the end of this exercise, we will work together as one happy united family, so that we go into that election united.

“The fight is not between us; it is simply a family discussion going on. The real fight is ahead of us and at the end of the election in June, we want to congratulate the PDP for having won Ekiti.

“We should be able to say we now have a PDP government in Ekiti, that is one singular desire that we have. We don’t have any other desire,” he said.

Ayu commended the party stakeholders for honouring the party invitation, urging them to keep supporting the party.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting thereafter continued behind closed doors.

The party leaders in the meeting with Ayu were Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto and other PDP NWC members.

The Ekiti stakeholders include former Governors Ayo Fayose and Segun Oni; former Deputy Governor, Prof. Olushola Eleka; Sen. Abiodun Olujimi, and other governorship aspirants of the party. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
