Anambra man, Onyedika Nnofu kills blind brother, burns corpse

The killing of Maduabuchi Nnofu has resulted into anger among members of Joint National Association of Persons with Disability in Anambra State.
Police operatives in Anambra have arrested one Onyedika Nnofu for allegedly killing 47-year-old Maduabuchi Nnofu, the chairman of Joint National Association of Persons with Disability in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
Nnofu also set the corpse of his brother who was visually impaired ablaze after killing him on Sunday, the state police command spokesperson said in a statement.

“Preliminary information showed that the brothers were having issues (conflict) over land,” According to the police spokesperson.
He added that Onyedika is currently being interrogated by the police in the state.
He said the commissioner of police in the state has assured of a “comprehensive investigation” into the incident.
While calling for justice over the murder, the Joint National Association of Persons with Disability in Anambra said Maduabuchi was killed because the victim was blind and helpless, in a statement in a statement issued on Monday by its Chairman, Ugochukwu Okeke.
The Association therefore appealed to the police, the state government and members of civil society organisations to to ensure the suspect and his other conspirators were duly punished for the murder to prevent further maltreatment of persons living with disabilities.
“We are demanding justice for the late Maduabuchi.
“Justice is necessary to prevent a repeat of this man’s inhumanity to man on our member or any other person anywhere in Nigeria,” the association said.
