Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi is mourning the late Ekundayo Adeyemi, the first professor of architecture in Africa.

In a statement issued by Mr Yinka Oyebode, his Chief Press Secretary, the governor described the deceased as an illustrious son of Ekiti and an iconic figure in the architectural world.

Adeyemi, who hailed from Iyin-Ekiti in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state, died on Monday, aged 84.

The governor said the deceased made the state proud through numerous landmark achievements while his sojourn on earth lasted.

According to him, Prof. Adeyemi was an inspiring pioneer and pathfinder, a thoroughbred academic, who lived a life of service to God and humanity.

His contributions as a former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), to the field of architecture, both nationally and globally, could not be over-emphasised.

“For us in Ekiti, this is a huge loss. Prof. Adeyemi was an exemplar, a pathfinder. He represented our very best in Ekiti and made a great impact in almost every aspect of life.

“He remained a source of pride and inspiration to generations after him.

“Our prayer is that God will grant him eternal rest and give his family the fortitude to bear the loss”, Fayemi said.
