The authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has broken its silence on reported attempted kidnap of students on the Campus by kidnappers.

Reports on social media in a viral video had suggested that some ritualists were apprehended as they attempted to kidnap students of UNILAG.

But the school, in a statement, rubbished such claim, saying there had never been any attempted kidnap of students of UNILAG on campus.

“The Management, University of Lagos (UNILAG) wishes to inform the general public that the rumour about an attempted kidnap within the university campus is false,” the statement from the Communication Unit of the school said.

The authorities said the incident in the video was a case of social misconduct and physical assault between students, in which one party attempted to flee the scene and was apprehended by the University security towards the Onike gate axis of the University.

The statement said the Vice-Chancellor and University Management wished to assure students, parents and the public that the security and safety of all students remained a priority at the University of Lagos.

Also, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos Police Command, Ajisebutu Adekunle said there was no kidnap attempt at UNILAG.

“There was no kidnap. It was a case of misunderstanding between a female student and three others (one of whom is a UNILAG student) which led to assault on the lady and some of the security guards,” he said in a Whatsapp message.
