Syrian-born Nigerian faces charges of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence

Operatives of the Force Investigation Bureau (FIB), Lagos have arrested a 42-year-old Hamzat Khalidson Olayinka and charged him before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing two sets of Laptops valued at N3.8m.

The laptops belonged to the management of Glasscode. The suspect was said to have escaped.

Police alleged that nemesis, however, caught up with the fleeing Olayinka when the management of Glasscode reported the matter to the Commissioner of Police, CP in charge of operations at the FIB, Lagos who directed his men led by DSP Johnson Ajayi to fish out the defendant.

The Police team, after days of intelligence gathering tracked Olayinka to Oko-Oba area of Agege, Lagos and arrested him.

Olayinka was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a one count charge of stealing.

Police Prosecuting Counsel, Amedu Adoga told the Court in the charge marked W/07/2022 that the defendant committed the offence on 12 December, 2021 at Glasscode, situated at 5, Admiralty Road, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

Adoga informed the Court that the complainant contracted the defendant for services and that instead of rendering the services, the defendant stole the complainant’s one Dell and Hp Laptop computers valued at N3.8m and escaped before he was arrested at Agege Area of Lagos after days of manhunt.

Adoga said the offence Olayinka committed was punishable under section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate O.A Alogba granted him N200, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.

Alogba adjourned the case till 18 February, 2022 for mention and ordered that the defendant be detained at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility till he perfected the bail conditions
