A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded one Lazarus Iordye of Tse-poor Village in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue, for alleged murder of 77- year-old Dzendasha Agundu.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ato Godwin, told the court that Iordey was arrested after one Moses Dzendasha of Tse-poor Village, Makurdi, reported the case on Feb. 9, 2022.

He alleged that Iordey beat up the complainant’s 77- year-old father, Dzendasha Agundu, with a stick.

He told the court that the septuagenarian sustained serious injuries from the beating and was rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital where he died.

According to him, the alleged offence contravenes Section 222 of the Penal Code, Law of Benue State, 2004.

The prosecutor said that investigation was ongoing in the case, and prayed the court to remand the defendant.

The Magistrate, Mr Vincent Kor, did not take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction.

Kor ordered that Iordey should be kept at the Makurdi Correctional Centre pending advice from the Office of Benue State Director of Public Prosecutions.

He adjourned the case until April 12, for mention.
