A Grade I Area Court, Dei-Dei, Shagari quarters, in Abuja on Monday sentenced a 24-year-old Driver, Adamu Mohammed, to 6 months imprisonment for defrauding his employer of N120,000

Mohammed, of Arab Road Kubwa Abuja, is charged with breach of trust and cheating.

The Area Court judge, Sulyman Ola however, gave Mohammed an option of N30,000 fine and warned him to stay away from crimes.

Mohammed had earlier pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olaonipekun Babajide, told the court that on Feb. 13, the complainant, Oguori Precious of Haj Estate Kubwa, Abuja, reported the matter at Kubwa Police Station.

Babajide said that sometime in October 2021 the complainant gave the convict his Toyota Corolla car for commercial purpose.

He told the court that the convict criminally and dishonestly refused to remit the proceeds to the complainant as agreed by both parties.

He said that the convict acted in a fraudulent manner and converted N120, 000 to his personal use thereby causing the complainant wrongful loss.

The prosecutor added that during police investigation, the convict made a confessional statement and all efforts made to recover the money proved abortive.

Babajide said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
