How suspected fraudsters swindled Dr. Bello £1m for 'spiritual cleansing'

The Federal High Court in Ilorin on Monday sentenced five Yahoo boys to various jail terms, for offences bordering on cybercrimes and other internet related fraud.

The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Commission, (EFCC) secured the conviction.

The convicts are Laoshe Olajide, Akinbohun Stephen, Hammed Babatunde, Lawal Faruq and David Ezekiel.

Delivering judgment, Justice Muhammed Sani, pronounced the defendants guilty, having found merit in the prosecutors’ case.

The judge sentenced Olajide to three months in prison on counts 1 and 2, with an option of a fine of N50,000.

The court ordered that the Apple iPhone 6, used as instrument of the crime, be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Babatunde was to spend six months in prison, with option of fine of N100,000 and forfeit all the properties and money acquired during the act to the Federal Government.

Stephen, Ezekiel and Faruq were sentenced to one year in prison with an option of fine of N250,000 each and forfeiture of mobile phones, laptops, vehicles and money recovered from them to the Federal Government.

The defendants pleaded guilty to their respective charges.

Following their guilt pleas, the prosecutors; Aliyu Adebayo, Andrew Akoja and Rasheedat Alao, informed the court of the plea bargain agreements, entered by the defendants with the EFCC.

They urged the court to pronounce the defendants guilty as charged and sentence them in line with the plea bargain agreements.
