Updated: Igboho can’t go home yet, lawyer reveals Soyinka’s role

Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Sunday Igboho, cannot leave Cotonou, Benin Republic, though he is out of prison.

His lawyer Yomi Aliyyu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), said Igboho was only released from jail for medical reasons.

He also revealed the role played by Professor Wole Soyinka and leader of Ilana Yoruba, Professor Banji Akintoye.

Aliyyu made the clarification in a message to Igboho supporters, which he posted on Facebook on Monday night.

“I am to inform all the followers of Chief Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Igboho Oosa that he has been released from prison to his medical practitioners under the agreement that he should neither leave the medical centre nor Cotonou for any reason.

“Praises should be given to two prominent Yoruba personalities to wit Prof Wole Soyinka and Prof Akintoye for this turn around in our client’s matter”.

Earlier reports had screamed that Igboho had been freed after spending over 231 days in Benin Republic prison.

He was arrested on July 19, 2021, along with his wife Ropo. He was on his way to Germany where his family is based.

The wife was freed earlier.
