The Police Command in Zamfara, on Monday, confirmed the killing of 16 people in Sunday’s attack by terrorists suspected to be bandits in Ganar Kiyawa village of Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Shehu, said the figure of 24 deaths dished out by a section of the media, was not correct and that the terrorists killed 16.

“Sixteen villagers were killed by the bandits during the attack, not 24 or 20, as reported by a section of the media.

“The command, in collaboration with the military, is currently conducting an extensive bush combing of the affected community.

“This is with a view to returning normalcy and apprehending the perpetrators of this bizarre crime,” Shehu said.

He called on the people of the state to continue to support government and security agencies with useful information.

The spokesperson said such cooperation would complement efforts at addressing the security challenges facing the state.

Zamfara State has been a haven for bandits, with the terrorists sacking thousands of villagers from their farms and many others maimed or killed.

Despite the military assault on the terrorists, they have devised different ways of attacking their prey, kidnapping many, then demanding ransom.
