Akpaida who is the Head of Benin Network Centre of DAAR Communications, owners of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Ray Power, is hoping to contest the Akoko- Edo constituency II, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

She made her intention known over the weekend when she met with leaders of the party of Ward 9, and later, Akoko-Edo local government leaders of the party.

She urged the leaders to support her ambition and to consider the United Nations General Assembly resolution on 30 per cent for women at leadership position, which she said Governor Godwin Obaseki has been an advocate of.

Akpaida, while addressing the party leaders, said if given the opportunity to serve, she is confident of making a huge difference by attracting developmental projects to the area.

She added that as a journalist with wealth of experience, she had worked closely with the system (politics) and knows how things are done.

According to Akpaida, “As a media practitioner who had covered politics and closely worked with them for years, I don’t think anything is new to me. I know how the system operates, so it is for me to hit the ground running, because nothing will be strange to me. I am determined to bring the desired development to Akoko-Edo Constituency II.”

The elated PDP ward leaders prayed for her to achieve her aspiration by clinching ticket of the party, and to eventually win at the general election.

Four aspirants have so far expressed interest in picking the the PDP ticket for Akoko-Edo constituency II but AKpaida, being the only female among the aspirants, has a brighter chance to clinching the ticket.
