A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 35-year-old driver, Isaiah Oluwagbemileke, at Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Lagos, for robbing a man of his car and phones with a cutlass.
Oluwagbemileke is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit robbery and committal of robbery.
His plea was, however, not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs L. Y. Balogun, ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre, pending legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She adjourned the case till April 28 for DPP advice.
Earlier, Police Prosecutor, Insp. Modupe Olaluwoye told the court that the defendant committed the offences at 5.30 a.m. on Dec. 8, 2021, along the Epe expressway.
According to her, the defendant used a cutlass to rob the complainant, Mr Adunupe Musediko, while he was on his way to work.
She said the defendant stole the complainant’s new unregistered Opel Zafira car, and his two phones with a total value of N2.19 million.
She further stated that the defendant committed the offences alongside two other accomplices who escaped during their arrest.
The offences contravened Sections 297 and 299 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015. (Revised)
Section 297 stipulates 21 years in prison for the offence of robbery.
