Actor and singer, Banky Wellington is running again for the Eti-Osa House of Representatives seat in Lagos, this time as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.

In 2019, he ran on the platform of the little known Modern Democratic Party, which was formed in 2017.

But in the election held 23 February 2019, he lost to Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress.

Banky’s party had since been de-registered, along with 73 other paper weight parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission for poor electoral performance.

The artist is banking on the PDP to realise his dream to win the seat

“We must engage with Nigeria where it is, not where we prefer for it to be”, Banky said in a video shared on Twitter.

“In 2019, we planted the seed. In 2023, by the grace of God, and with your support, we will win the seat.

“The time for just talking is over. It’s time to #TalkAndDo. I hope I can count on you. We move”.

Banky W was born as Olubankole Wellington in the United States on 27 March 1981 to Nigerian parents.

His family moved back to Nigeria when he was five years old. He started singing at a young age in his church choir.

Banky schooled in Lagos for his primary and secondary education.

He returned to the U.S. for his tertiary education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York.

He started his record label E.M.E in 2002 while studying in the U.S.

He plunged full time into music business on his return to Nigeria in 2009.

In 2017 Banky married actress Adesua Etomi. They had a son in 2021.
