Concerned residents and motorists of Obalende, Ikoyi have appealed to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to as a matter of urgency rebuild the Obalende Motor Parks.

The residents urged that the parks which were demolished during the regime of former Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwumi Ambode need to be rebuilt to stop the daily traffic gridlock and the attendant environmental nuisances in the area.

Some of those who spoke with PM NEWS in the area said that their appeal became imperative following the avoidable traffic gridlock being caused by drivers loading buses and cabs along the road and the attendant environmental nuisances due to the lack of motor parks in the area.

They also appealed to Sanwo-Olu to urgently build mega public toilets in the area for the about 10,000 Lagosians passing through the area to their places of work daily to stop open defecation.

They said open defecation is a major environmental nuisance in the area due to the lack of public toilets since the demolishion of the public toilet inside the motor parks by the previous regime.

Some of the complainants, however, praised Gov. Sanwo-Olu for doing a wonderful job especially in the area of road construction in all parts of Lagos State since he assumed office and the zeal with which he fought the COVID-19 pandemic to save the lives of Lagosians.

They appealed to him to complete his achievements by rebuilding the Obalende Motor Parks and providing public toilets in the area to stop Loading of buses and Cabs along the road and open defecation due to lack of motor parks and public toilets in the area for the past five years.

According to Mr Amos Adoghe, a resident, “We are appealing to Governor Sanwo-Olu to come to our rescue and restore the lost glory of Ikoyi-Obalende which was the former Federal Capital of Nigeria before it was moved to Abuja by rebuilding the Obalende Motor parks and public toilets to stop the loading of buses and cabs along the road and open defecation in the area.

Another resident, Mr Olatunji Dare said, “I commend the branch Chairmen of the Ikoyi-Obalende National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW for always mobilising their members to direct traffic in the area especially at the P&T roundabout to ease the traffic in the area to enable motorists get to their place of work on time. I urge them not to relent,” Dare stated.
