Senator Abba Moro of the Peoples Democratic Party has been discharged and acquitted of the charges of fraud arising from the conduct of the botched 2014 Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had in 2016 arraigned Abba Moro and three others.

Those were former permanent secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia and a Deputy Director in the ministry, Mr Femi Alayebami, Mahmood Ahmadu (at large), the firm given the recruitment job, Drexel Tech Nigeria Ltd..

They were slammed with an 11-count charge of obtaining money by pretext, procurement fraud and money laundering.

But Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court in Abuja ruling today discharged Moro, who was then the Minister of Interior.

Dimgba had in 2020 quashed seven out of the eleven-count charge, after a no-case submission.

Today, Dimgba completed the exoneration of Moro.

The court, however found the second defendant, Mrs Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia guilty in count four of the charge.

Dimgba deferred the sentencing till 27 April.

The count carries a maximum jail term of five years without an option of a fine.

Justice Dimgba discharged the third defendant of in counts two, four, five and 11.

Abba Moro now represents Benue South in the National Assembly.
