Social media expert Akinwumi encourages youth to seize opportunities on social media

The social media scene has been quite dynamic over the past decade. Nigerian social media expert and public relations consultant Akinwumi Damilola Michael is one of the many who has benefited from the power of social media. From creating viral videos to becoming a public relations consultant, he has become a social media influencer.

Said Michael; social media is one of the most democratizing tools for all citizens. It has brought him close to relevant people in society, and he takes pride in its positive usage. “ In recent times, I have seen an influx of new exciting players coming into the PR space. The newcomers put up blogs and other platforms to express their views on issues close to their hearts and minds.”

The OAU graduate of Materials Engineering stated that social media had brought him close to relevant people in society, and he takes pride in its positive usage. However, he also said that while he believes social media is changing lives, not many are aware of what it can do for their lives. “ People should embrace social media as a tool for career growth in their respective fields,” he said.

His advice for aspiring young entrepreneurs and newcomers in the social media space is to use the platform to build their brand. “Young people need to be creative, innovative, and understand what makes social media tick for them. Only then will they be able to position themselves as experts in their fields,” he said.
Social media strategies are also essential to follow. Michael explained that campaigns have different methods and goals, depending on the niche and industry. For instance, if a campaign is for a specific product or brand, it would be geared towards appealing to a customer base interested in the same.

Michael has been working closely with top entertainment artists in Nigeria. He started working with Dockthor media and has worked with many notable personalities in society. He worked with top artists, including Chioma Okereke, DJ Baddo, and LAX.

Michael believes social media provides exciting job opportunities to creative people who want to make their mark in the industry. “ The new generation should not be afraid of being creative, as it is the way to succeed.” He also works as a freelance photographer and editor through Fiverr and Upwork. The public relations expert believes there is a big market for freelance professionals on the internet. He said this makes it easy for young entrepreneurs to access job opportunities, especially when building their brand.

The social media star urged young entrepreneurs not to be afraid of competition and believe in themselves. “ What I find exciting about the internet is the new and growing opportunities available every day,” he said.
