Karim Benzema’s extra-time goal has sent Real Madrid to the Champions League semi-finals despite a 2-3 loss to Chelsea at the Bernabeu on Tuesday.

Madrid go through on 5-4 aggregate, having won the first leg at Stamford Bridge 3-1 last week.

Chelsea mounted a comeback and were leading Madrid 0-3 a few minutes to the end of the game when the homers scored to take the game to extra-time.

The visitors, knowing they have a mountain to climb opened scoring on 15 minutes.

Mason Mount was set free in the area by Timo Werner and he made no mistake with a lovely finish into the right side of the net.

Chelsea cancelled out Madrid’s advantage on 51 minutes when they got the second goal.

Mason Mount sent a fantastic cross into the box from the corner. Antonio Rudiger jumped highest and planted a header down inside the right post.

The visitors looked to have won it when they made it 0-3 on 62 minutes.

Marcos Alonso fired the rebound into the top right corner after the ball broke to him in the box. With the score on 0-3. Madrid will be out if it ended that way.
The homers fought back and scored on 80 minutes to make the score 1-3, dragging the game into extra-time.
Luka Modric sent a precise lofted cross into the box. Rodrygo latched on to it and finished with a quick shot inside the right post. The goalkeeper had no chance.
Benzema ended Chelsea’s bravery on 96 minutes, making it 2-3 for Madrid and 5-4 on aggregate.
A nice lofted pass into the box by Vinicius Junior was pounced on by Benzema. His close-range header flashed past Edouard Mendy and into the left of the goal.
