Villarreal are through to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League after Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze stunned Bayern Munich with an equaliser and a winner.

Villarreal won the first leg in Spain 1-0 last week and it took Bayern’s Lewandowski 52 minutes to level the match.

Two minutes to the end of the match, Villarreal conjured a winner, in a counter attack, that saw Gerard Moreno send a thorough pass to substitute left-winger Chukwueze to latch the ball home.

The goal saw the Unai Emery coached Villarreal in the semi-final of the tournament, for the first time, since 2006.

Six-time European champions Bayern, who had won 12 of their previous 13 home games in the competition failed to find the net again after Lewandowski’s first goal, his 13th this season.

The goal drought was despite intense pressure piled on the visitors in the second half.

Instead it was Villarreal, semi-finalists in 2006, who scored against the run of play with Chukwueze beating goalkeeper Manuel Neuer with a left-foot effort to silence the home crowd.

They will play Liverpool or Benfica in the last four, with the English side leading 3-1 after the first leg in Portugal.
