I have no faith in 2023 election: Pa Ayo Adebanjo

Pa Ayo Adebanjo, leader of the Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, said he does not believe that the outcome of the 2023 election will bring solutions to the challenges in the country.

Pa Adebanjo stated at the 1st Anniversary of the Comrade Yinka Odumakin Lecture and Book Presentation.

The event held at the Sheraton Hotel in Lagos was to mark the one-year passing of late activist, Yinka Odumakin.

Speaking at the event, Adebanjo said going for an election in 2023 without restructuring is an exercise in futility.

He said: “I don’t have faith in the 2023 election, If you don’t change the constitution, going for election without restructuring is an exercise in futility.”

The 94-year-old leader added that constitutional review and changes must be made by people with progressive minds and not leaders who have hidden agendas that will not benefit the masses.

He, however, urged the youths at the meeting to continue to fight for the right course.

He said: “I am happy that many of the people who are here are youth, you have to fight for your future. ASUU is on strike, roads are bad, you must fight for your future because people who are supposed to fight for you are busy fighting for office.”

Pa Adebanjo, however, praised Yinka Odumakin as one of the young men committed to ensuring good governance in Nigeria.

He said: “Yinka Odumakin was a very committed young man, fearless. I am still mourning him till today and I’m yet to find a replacement for him.”
