Super Eagles draw Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau in 2023 AFCON qualifiers

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn along Sierra Leone and Guinea-Bissau in Group A of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Either Sao Tome or Mauritius will join the other three teams to complete Group A.

The Super Eagles and Sierra Leone were in the same AFCON qualifier group for the last tournament in November 2020.

The Nigerian side was leading 4-0 in the first half in Abuja before the Sierra Leoneans scored four goals in the second half to draw the match. The second leg also ended goalless.

The draw for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Côte d’Ivoire 2023 was conducted in Johannesburg, South Africa on Tuesday evening, with exciting matches lined up for next year’s tournament.

The draw was conducted by African football legends, former South Africa defender Lucas Radebe and ex-Côte d’Ivoire forward Solomon Kalou.

Defending champions Senegal have been pooled in Group L where they will battle out with Benin, Mozambique and Rwanda.

Hosts Côte d’Ivoire are in Group H with Zambia, Comoros and Lesotho. Only one team will qualify from this group, alongside the hosts.

Comoros, who were one of the surprise packages at the delayed 2021 showpiece in Cameroon are seeking a second consecutive qualification.

In Group K, Morocco will lock horns with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Liberia, while Tunisia will play in Group J along with Equatorial Guinea, Libya and Botswana.

Ghana will play Madagascar, Angola and Central African Republic in Group E while Algeria will battle Uganda, Niger and Tanzania in Group F.
