Funke Babalola, the Chairman of Ekiti United Football Club, on Sunday said the suspension placed on the state-owned club’s Head Coach, Kayode Olujohungbe, has been lifted with immediate effect.

Babalola, in a statement, said the suspension was lifted because the coach has shown tremendous understanding of the philosophy of the team and its management.

She added that Olujohungbe has shown remorse regarding some of his technical shortcomings as a coach.

“Ekiti United FC’s management board discovered that coach Olujohungbe was not guilty of some of the allegations levelled against him by some individuals and groups, who had accused him of several wrongdoings.

“Therefore, there is the need to recall him so as to resume duties immediately.”

Babalola urged Ekiti United’s supporters to keep calm and cooperate with the coach and other members of the club’s technical crew in their quest to move the team to greater heights.

She said football lovers in Ekiti have no reason to worry about the current form of Ekiti United, noting that the team were faring better than they did last season.

The Ado Ekiti-based team are currently placed fifth, after the first round matches in the Southern Conference B1 Group of the 2021/2022 Nigeria National League (NNL).

Babalola pointed out that the team were in sixth place at this stage of the competition last season and still finished well by the end.

She therefore called for the cooperation of all stakeholders, assuring that the team would move up the ladder rather than get relegated as being insinuated by some football fans.

“Efforts are being intensified to beef up the team and reposition it for improved performance in the second stanza of the NNL season,” the club board chairman said.

Olujohungbe was suspended on March 21, less than four months after being hired.(
