Twitter may announce the $54.20-per-share deal later on Monday once its board has met to recommend the transaction to Twitter shareholders, a source told Reuters.
It added that it was still possible the deal could collapse at the last minute.
On Monday, Twitter’s shares rose by about 4% in opening trade in New York on speculation the firm could agree a takeover deal with Musk as early as Monday.
Twitter had initially rebuffed the billionaire’s approach.
But according to reports, Twitter is now in the final stages of negotiations with Musk to buy the business.
