Yet to be ascertained number of passengers are now in custody of gunmen who hijacked their vehicles along Evekwu -Rumuodogo road in Emohua local government axis of the East-West road in Rivers State on Wednesday evening
Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen took the passengers into a nearby forest in the area after they succeeded in hijacking their vehicles.
A member of local vigilante group in the area who confirmed the incident said the gunmen hijacked a fully loaded commercial bus, a Sienna vehicle carrying goods and another private vehicle at a gunpoint in the Evekwu-Rumuodogo axis of East-West road and took away the passengers.
But he could not confirm the actual number of the kidnapped victims.
It was learnt that the victims were returning from Port Harcourt when the gunmen ambushed them around 8pm to 9pm last night and marched them into the forest.
Vigilante operatives in the area said they managed to trace the footsteps of the kidnappers after the incident occurred could not continue due to some circumstances beyond their control.
The Rivers State Police Command is yet to confirm the incident.
But a police officer who wants to remain anonymous at Rumuji division said officers from the Division have visited the scene.
Three passengers kidnapped along the Emohua-Degema road few days ago regained their freedom yesterday.
