Gunmen attack police vehicle in Bayelsa: 5 killed

A police constable identified as Asuo Osuani and four police constabularies were shot dead in a gunmen ambush on a vehicle conveying some police officers and civilians at Idema-Otuabagi road, Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa State on Saturday.

The Special Constabulary operatives killed in the attack were Odeoye Sampson, Mr Terry Lucky, Jennifer Adejo and Ms Asueroh Tobin, according to a press statement from the Bayelsa State Police Command spokesperson SP Asinim Butswat.

The security operatives were from were returning from the burial of their colleague, late ASP Gilbert Sampson, at Imago Kugbo, Rivers State before they were attacked around 7.45 pm on Saturday evening.

The Police spokesperson added that one Inspector Urere Edwin, Ms Rejoice Sampson and Ms Reward Sampson sustained bullets injuries during the attack and are responding to treatment.

“The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, Ben Nebolisa Okolo, has ordered a manhunt for the gunmen who perpetrated the dastardly act. Investigation is ongoing,” Buswat said.
