Four dead in Kano explosion: Police say explosion not caused by bomb

Explosion rocks Kano.

The Kano State Police Command said four people have been confirmed dead in the explosion that rocked Kano on Tuesday morning.

The command said the explosion was caused by a gas cylinders and not bomb as many have speculated.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Samaila Dikko, said in a radio and television broadcast on Tuesday in Kano that the gas exploded at a welding point near a primary school on Aba Road in Sabon Gari, Kano.

Dikko stated that rescue workers were making efforts to discover people trapped at the building where the explosion occurred.

He urged residents of the state to remain calm as the situation was under control.

The explosion which occurred near the Winners Kids Academy resulted in damage to some buildings in the area.

Bashir Ahmad, for Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media also quoted the Kano Commissioner of Police as saying that the explosion was caused by a gas cylinder.

“The unfortunate incident in Kano was a gas explosion not a bomb blast, the Kano State Police Commissioner has confirmed,” Ahmad tweeted.
