Kaduna woman Diana James docked for N5.6m fraud

A 55-year-old businesswoman, Diana James, was on Thursday docked in a Kaduna State Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged N5.6m land fraud.

The police charged James, who resides in Narayi High Coast, Kaduna, with cheating and fraud.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Sunday Baba, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on sometimes in November 2021 in Barnawa, Kaduna.

Baba alleged that James obtained N5.6m from the complainant, Moses Fred on the pretext of selling four plots of land to him, knowing that it was false.

He stated that after collecting the money, the defendant ran to an unknown destination until she was arrested on April 25.

Baba said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 390 and 421 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Blessing Stephen admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 13, for hearing.
