A 30-year-old student, Olalekun Emmanuel, was on Friday docked in an Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, for allegedly cheating a businesswoman.

The police charged Emmanuel, who resides in Iddo Sarki, Abuja, with criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Yetunde Ojo, of Sabo Iddo, Abuja, reported the matter at the police station on Feb. 10.

Tanko said that the defendant was given two textile materials worth N76,000 by the complainant to sell and remit the money.

He alleged that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.

The police alleged that during the investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime and refunded only N50,000 while all efforts to recover the balance of N26,000 failed.

Tanko said that the offence contravened the provision of Sections 309 and 312 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Malam Sani Umar, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N40,000 with one surety in like sum.

Umar said that in default, the defendant should be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Suleja.

He adjourned the case until July 20 for hearing.
