Lagos State Government has said it is determined to ensure that children in primate and orphanage homes are properly catered for.

The move was to ensure compliance with Lagos State Food and Nutrition Policy and Plan of Action.

Permanent Secretary, Youth and Social Development, Dr Olugbemiga Aina spoke at a training organised by the Mnistry for owners of Private Homes and Orphanages.

Aina said as stakeholders, “owners of private orphanages need to be carried along in the nutritional care of the children in their homes so that they can assist in implementing various government nutrition intervention plans for the vulnerable.”

According to Aina, the state government was determined to ensure that the children were adequately taken care of, hence it designed a nutrition policy and plan of action to serve as a guide for operators of homes and orphanages.

The Facilitators, Mrs Olubunmi Braheem, State Nutrition Officer, and Mrs Rhoda Komolafe, a life coach took the participants on topics bordering on the essential components of good nutrition and how to promote it.

During the question and answer session, the facilitators explained to the participants how they could use the meagre financial resources at their disposal to meet the nutritional requirements of the children in their care.

Director, Child Development, Mrs Bukayo Odukayo implored the participants to adhere strictly to all the rules laid down in the nutrition policy as this would go a long way in ensuring the children were guaranteed healthy growth and development.
