In the bustling city of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria, an artist with a deep connection to his roots emerged onto the music scene. George Imadiyi, known by his stage name Gmoney Imadiyi, captivated audiences with his unique blend of cultural influences and musical prowess.
Born and raised in Benin City, Gmoney’s journey took an unexpected turn when he ventured to Europe in 2009, a decision that would shape his musical career in more ways than one.
His story is one of both cultural heritage and academic achievement. Graduating from Ambrose Ali University in 2008 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, his thirst for knowledge and innovation was evident from an early age. Even as he pursued a degree in an engineering field, his passion for music burned brightly beneath the surface.
After completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) commitment in late 2009, Gmoney Imadiyi took a leap of faith and relocated to Europe. While many would find themselves swept away by the fast-paced, cosmopolitan lifestyle of the continent, Gmoney remained deeply connected to his Nigerian heritage. Through his music, he managed to bridge the gap between his African roots and his newfound European experiences.
After living in Europe for several years where he released singles like “Igho”, “Set me free” and “Shake am”, Gmoney Imadiyi achieved a significant milestone in his musical journey by releasing his debut studio album, aptly titled “Born a Winner.” In 2019 which included the already mentioned singles. The album was originally released in 2019 and redistributed this year (dated 20 May 2022). The album serves as a testament to his determination, resilience, and unwavering belief in his ability to overcome obstacles. Drawing from a diverse range of influences, from traditional Nigerian rhythms to contemporary Western beats, Gmoney crafted a musical masterpiece that resonated with listeners on a global scale.
“Born a Winner” showcased Gmoney’s unique blend of melodic ingenuity and thought-provoking lyrics. The album’s tracks seamlessly transitioned between energetic anthems celebrating triumph over adversity and introspective ballads that delved into his personal experiences. Each song was a glimpse into the artist’s multifaceted identity, a fusion of his Nigerian roots and his experiences as an immigrant in Europe
