Breaking: Peter Obi dumps PDP, pulls out of presidential race

Former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Peter Obi has pulled out of the presidential race and dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Obi announced his withdrawal from PDP in a letter to the National Chairman of PDP, Dr Iyorchia Ayu.

In the letter, Obi said he was writing to inform Ayu of his resignation from the PDP, which he had already conveyed to the chairman of PDP, Agulu Ward 1, Aniocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

“I am writing to intimate you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, which was conveyed to the chairman of Agulu Ward 2, Aniocha LG, Anambra with effect from 20 May.

“Consequently, I am by the letter informing you of my withdrawal from the PDP Presidential primaries,” Obi said.

Obi said it had been a great honour to contribute to nation building effort through the PDP, but lamented unhealthy development in the party which made him to quit.

“Unfortunately, recent development within our party makes it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions.

“Our national challenges are deep-seated and require that we each make profound sacrifices towards rescuing our country. My commitment to rescuing Nigeria remains firm even if the mode differs.

“I wish to thank you personally for your graciousness and leadership. I wish you well and best of luck in the service of our country,” Obi said in the letter.
