Tonye Cole emerges APC Governorship candidate in Rivers

Tonye Dele Cole has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship primaries held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday.

He beats the other contestants with a wide margin, polling 986 votes.
His closest rival, Ojukaye Flag Amachree scored 190 votes while Sokonte Davies got 46 votes.
Others contestants scored 46 votes. They are: Ibinabo Micheal West 43 votes; Bernard Mikko, 2 votes and Magnus Abe, one vote.
Abe had earlier passed a vote of no confidence on the primaries.
Cole had been tipped as a consensus governorship candidate by the 19 elders of the party, but some of the contestants kicked against the decision of the elders of the party and decided to test their popularity.
The primary, which was held at the Adokiye Amasiemeka Stadium, was largely peaceful and ended at about 5.00pm, with four of contestants in attendance while Abe and Mikko were absent.
