Top government officials with the children during Children's Day

The Lagos State Government has said it will continue to invest in formulation and implementation of plans, policies and programmes that will positively impact on the children in the State.

This was made known by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Dr Olugbemiga Ayoola Aina during the celebration of 2022 Children’s Day in Alausa, Ikeja.

According to Aina, the enactment of the Child Rights Law, introduction of Children’s Parliament, capacity building Programmes for hperators of Homes,, introduction Operational Guidelines for Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and the recent launching of guidelines for Alternative Care for Children are some of the initiatives of the state government to better the lots of the children in the State.

Speaking on theme of the celebration, “Investing in Our Future,” Aina said, “we will continue to invest in our children. No amount of time and resources we invest in them can be too much. This is because apart from being gifts from God, our children are truly our future that we must nurture very well.”

The Permanent Secretary also stated that it was in pursuit of its mandate of giving succour to the vulnerable and needy in the society that the Ministry had made it a tradition to dole out various food items and educational materials to all orphanages in the State.

During the visit of staff of the Ministry to Heritage Home located in Anthony Village, Dr Olugbemiga Aina encouraged the children not to give up hope but to imbibe good moral values that would help them to fulfill their dreams.

Speaking, Mrs. Ayo Yusuf, a management staff of Heritage Home, said that most of the Homes were able to tackle their challenges as a result of the support from the government and public spirited individuals as well as the conducive socio-economic environment created by state government.
