Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has explained why the Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike lost PDP’s presidential ticket to veteran politician, Atiku Abubakar.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Omokri attributed Atiku’s victory to “Northern solidarity”.

Just before the election, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, stepped down for Atiku, a step commended by Atiku on Facebook.

“Thank you, H.E Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, for your spirited campaign. I look forward to working with you as we unite our party and our country”. -AA

It was a bad turn for Wike, as he had backed Tambuwal in 2019 against Atiku. And no wonder, he was not on the podium when Atiku made his victory speech.

“The South has a lot to learn from the genuine brotherly love and unity displayed by Northerners”, Omokri wrote

“Consider that though Wike backed Tambuwal against HE Atiku in 2019, the same Tambuwal has turned around to back HE Atiku against Wike in 2022.

“Northern solidarity! It is something that the South lacks.
Tambuwal has shown that that Northern solidarity is thicker and stronger than financial solidarity”.

Atiku won the ‘obscenely monetised” contest with 371 votes, while Wike got 237 votes, to place second.

In another post, Omokri consoled Wike for the loss, saying Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League.

“At least Governor Wike’s club, Real Madrid won. That can serve as a consolation prize!”, Omokri wrote, with a tinge of sarcasm.
