Okorocha pays N500m, beats deadline for APC presidential screening

Rochas Okorocha has perfected his bail conditions which involve the payment of N500 million and has arrived at the venue of the All Progressives Congress’ presidential screening in Abuja.

Okorocha’s attendance for the screening exercise was doubtful after he was arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission last week Tuesday.

However, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted him bail on Tuesday morning in the sum of N500 million and a surety in like sum.

With the latest development, Okorocha perfected the bail in less than 12 hours and now waiting to get the approval of the APC to contest the presidential ticket of the ruling party.

The former governor, who is being tried on a 17-count charge of money laundering to the tune of N2.9 billion, is number 17 on the 23-man list of APC presidential aspirants.

Okorocha will now have to clear his membership status, financial status, academic credentials, and other requirements for a presidential candidate as spelled out in the constitution of the APC.

As of the time of filing this report, the APC committee is yet to announce the disqualification of any candidate.

The screening exercise ends today as announced by the screening committee.
