Security men land in prison for stealing employer's N4.5m property

The Police at the Ikoyi Division, Lagos have arrested two security men and charged them before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly conniving to steal their employer’s property valued at N4,500,000 and escaped.

Police alleged that the defendants, Akpelle Frederick, 25, and Bulus Moses Kadon who were employed by the complaints, Mr and Mrs Ekong to provide security for them and their property allegedly betrayed their employer and stole their 400 pieces of scaffolding Irons and 300 pieces scaffolding clips all valued at N4,500,000 and escaped.

Police further alleged that following the ugly development, the complainants reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Ikoyi Division, CSP Tijani Mustapha N’abba who directed his crack team to fish out the suspects anywhere they could be found.

The Police team later tracked the suspects to a hideout in Lagos and arrested them.

The defendants were charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

Police Counsel, Reuben Solomon told the court in the charge marked P/06/2022 that the defendants committed the offence at Plot 45A, 221 Close, Banana Island Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Solomon informed the Court that the defendants betrayed the trust reposed in them by their employer as security men and stole their property and escaped before they were arrested.

He said the offences the defendants committed were punishable under sessions 411, 287(7) and 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Magistrate, Mr O.S Abioye granted them N500,000 bail each with two sureties in like sum.

Abioye adjourned the case till 7 June, 2022 for mention and ordered that the defendants be detained at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility till they perfected their bail conditions.
