President Muhammadu Buhari is currently meeting with Northern APC governors in a bid to arrive at a consensus presidential candidate.

The APC is holding its Special National Convention in Abuja today to choose a presidential candidate that will fly the banner of the party in next year’s presidential election.

Governors at today’s meeting with the president are: Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi, Simon Lalung of Plateau, Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa, Aminu Masari of Katsina, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, Abubakar Bello of Niger, Yahaya Inuwa of Gombe, Babagana Zulum of Borno, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, amongst others.

The president has been consulting with various sections of the party to pick a consensus candidate to fly the banner of the APC in next year’s presidential election.

He first met with APC governors last week and told them to allow him pick his consensus candidate and asked the governor to help him in the search. The governors’ meeting produced nothing.

On arrival from Spain, Buhari also met with 23 APC Presidential aspirants and urged them to meet and choose a consensus candidate among them, but they never agreed.

Buhari also met with the National Advisory Council of APC in Abuja on Sunday, in a bid to get a consensus candidate.
