Chef, security man sent to prison for stealing

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a chef and security man for allegedly conniving to steal properties belonging to their employer, OAK Estate.

The Police at the Maroko Division, Lekki, Lagos charged the suspects before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for stealing properties valued at N820,000.

The police alleged that the defendants, Bassy Edet Nsentip, 24, and Samuel Edet Esit, 25, who were employed by the complaint stole 42-inch flatscreen television, 3 bicycles, 100-volt battery and 50 litres of diesel all valued the sum of N820,000.

The police said the complainant reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Maroko Division Lekki Lagos, CSP Raji Ganiyu who directed his crack team to smoke out the suspects anywhere they might be hiding.

The Police team later arrested the defendants at a hideout in Lagos through intelligence gathering and tracking.

The defendants, from Akwa Ibom State, South-South Nigeria were charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

Police Counsel, Reuben Solomon informed the Court in the charge that the defendants committed the offence on 24 May 2022 at 26, Jeremiah Ugwu Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

Solomon told the Court that the Complainant employed the defendants to protect lives and properties for them but that unfortunately the defendants allegedly turned out to be the thief and stole their employer’s properties valued at N820,000 and escaped before they were arrested.

He said the offences, the defendants committed were punishable under sessions 411 and 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate, O. A Abioye granted them N100,000 bail each with one surety each in like sum.

Abioye adjourned the case till 30 June, 2022 for mention and ordered that the defendants be detained at the Ikoyi correctional facility till they perfected the bail conditions
