Eleven candidates contesting for the Ekiti governorship seat have signed a peace pact with the National Peace Commission (NPC) to ensure a free and fair election.

The signing was held late Wednesday before Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar-led NPC committee.

The former military head of state, who was represented by Rev. Matthew Kukah charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that voters are not hindered in any way.

Although all candidates were invited to the signing ceremony, only eleven showed up. Five candidates were absent.

Those who signed the peace pact include candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Action Democratic Congress (ADC), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Action People’s Party (APP), and Action Democratic Party (ADP)

Others are the African Action Congress (AAC), National Rescue Movement (NRM), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

While candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Young Progressives Party, (YPP) Labour Party (LP), Accord Party (AP), and Allied People’s Movement (APM) were absent.
